We’re finally wrapping up our GenCon coverage this week, and to do it we need to tell you all about the tournament! This week covers what we saw in the Qualifying Rounds of the tournament and some spoiler-free discussion of the Finals so that you can still enjoy our wonderful coverage on YouTube. Afterwards that are a few notes on the rest of our GenCon 2019 experience, which was wonderful!

While at GenCon, we had the opportunity to sit down with designers Bill Eberle of Dune and Patrick Leder of Root. We spoke with them about their upcoming releases and about the ways fans interact with their games. We also got to see Dune played and have been playing a fair amount of Root ourselves, and in this episode you’ll hear our first impressions on both games.

THIS EPISODE OF SCPT IS RATED PG-13 FOR SUGGESTIVE CONTENT AND LANGUAGE.

We finally had our first LIVE SHOW! This was our event held at GenCon 2019, where we played the archaic Twilight Imperium RPG (which is quite bad). We were joined by fellow Portland comedian Steven Wilber and member of the RPG group Rat Queens, Jessica Lynn Verdi! This was an incredible experience that we look forward to doing more of in the future.

THIS EPISODE HAS SOME AUDIO QUALITY ISSUES. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MIX THE PODCASTERS IN WITH THE RIFF RAFF! But no, seriously, we apologize for any discomfort in your listening experience.

TgWelch has been a mainstay of the Tabletop Simulator community for some time now, and it’s entirely possible that he has more games played of Twilight Imperium than any other person. Today, he joins us on the show to talk about organizing games on the Tabletop Simulator Discord, at home, and possibly future tournaments.

A recent game left Matt obsessed with a particular matchup. Sol and Yin are both masters of infantry, but how do they fair when pitted directly against each other? This episode breaks down this peculiar relationship and seeks to find out how players should behave when faced with their counterpart as a neighbor.

And now the premiere of your new favorite game show with only one episode: Can It War Sun? Today we’ll go through each faction and answer this ever-important question. At some point, we might finally decide this tech just isn’t good, but for today we’re doing our best to play devil’s advocate.

Daddy is away this week, so it’s up to your Show Buddy and Actual Daddy to steer the ship. And what better way than to do a player profile on our favorite guest host: EJ! EJ helped up commentate the finals of the tournament and makes regular appearances on the show, so it’s time to hear how he approaches Twilight Imperium.

Last week we were only able to cover *checks notes* FOUR promissory notes?! So now it is our duty to cover the remaining 17 faction promissory notes. Strap in, because it’s sure to be a bumpy ride.

The Galactic Council has another great pick for you this month: Promissory Notes. These little things are something we notoriously had trouble analyzing early on in TI4, but now that we’ve had some time to sit with them, we’re starting to feel more confident with how to use them. There’s a LOT of meta-meat on these bones, so it’s not all going to fit in one episode!
